ASHBURN, Va. — Washington Commanders receiver Terry McLaurin re-injured his quad in Monday night’s loss to the Kansas City Chiefs and was ruled out of Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks.

Coach Dan Quinn said the hope is McLaurin isn’t out long term, but the team will reassess his health next week.

McLaurin said after Washington’s 28-7 loss to the Chiefs that he wasn’t sure if he re-injured his quad during his 25-yard catch along the sideline late in the third quarter. However, the team’s medical staff tended to him on the bench shortly after, and he didn’t return for the remainder of the game.

“Yeah, it’s all right,” he said in the locker room afterward. “I’m just trying to take it day by day, just monitoring it. It’s a little sore and everything. I mean, anytime I can be out here fighting for the team, I’m always going to put myself out there. So just see how the week goes and go from there.”

McLaurin first injured his quad in Week 3 against the Las Vegas Raiders, when he extended for a 56-yard catch in the third quarter. He’s already missed four games this season — the first time he’s missed consecutive games in his NFL career. McLaurin caught three of four targets for 54 yards and a touchdown Monday.

The Commanders have dealt with a slew of injuries to key players this season, including quarterback Jayden Daniels. The second-year QB did not play against the Chiefs because of a hamstring injury, but is expected to practice in full this week in preparation for the Seahawks. If he can do that, he’s likely to start Sunday.

Daniels has played only two games this season with McLaurin.

Left tackle Laremy Tunsil, who exited the game in the first half because of a hamstring injury, will not practice Wednesday, but his game status will be determined Friday. Kicker Matt Gay will follow a similar regimen after he missed Monday’s game with a back issue. The team signed kicker Matthew Wright to the practice squad five hours before kickoff and elevated him to have him available for the game. Wright was released Tuesday.
