Justin Fields gets vulnerable after Jets’ first win of the season
Jets QB Justin Fields shared why he was ‘crying in his closet’ the week leading up to New York’s first win of the season vs. the Bengals.
NFL teams have until Nov. 4 to make any trades for the rest of the season. Less than a week from that deadline, the New York Jets made a move to bolster their wide receiving corps.
New York is trading cornerback Michael Carter II to the Philadelphia Eagles in return for wide receiver John Metchie III, per multiple reports. The deal includes draft picks as well: the Jets receive a sixth-round selection in the 2027 NFL Draft and the Eagles receive a seventh-round pick that year.

New York drafted Carter in the fifth round, No. 154 overall in the 2021 NFL Draft. He’s in the first year of a three-year contract extension he signed in the 2024 offseason that paid him $10.25 million per year.
Carter’s struggled under a new coaching staff in 2025. He’s started four games and tallied two passes defended and Pro Football Focus (PFF) grading ranks him 111th out of 113 qualifying cornerbacks league-wide.
Metchie is now on his third team since August. The Houston Texans drafted the wide receiver out of Alabama in the second round, No. 44 overall in the 2022 NFL Draft. Houston traded him to Philadelphia in August for Harrison Bryant and a swap of Day 3 selections in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Two months later, he’s back in the AFC.
Metchie’s played in seven games this season, none of them starts. He’s caught all four of his targets for 18 yards.
He joins a Jets wide receiver room hit by injuries at this point in the season. Josh Reynolds remains on injured reserve (IR) and leading receiver Garrett Wilson has missed the last two games with a knee injury.
Metchie is in the final year of his rookie contract and will be a free agent next offseason.
