Reports suggest that the Jacksonville Jaguars are looking to add at this year’s NFL trade deadline, but could they also be looking to move on from anyone?

Each of ESPN’s NFL Nation beat reporters had to select one player from their respective teams that “could be on the move” at this year’s deadline.

For the Jaguars, Michael DiRocco selected cornerback Jarrian Jones as a player who “could be on the move.”

“The Jaguars could be looking to add on defense, but Jones’ role has decreased significantly following the return of Montaric Brown and the development of Hunter,” DiRocco wrote. “Jones, a third-round pick last year, has played only six snaps on defense in the past five games.”

As mentioned, Jones’ playing time has been minimal. He is clearly the fifth option on the cornerback depth chart at this point.

During the Jaguars’ most recent game in London against the Rams, when in nickel, Jourdan Lewis was in the slot, Montaric Brown was outside, while a combination of Greg Newsome and Travis Hunter were at the other outside position.

DiRocco also mentions that Jones’ skill set makes him more of a man coverage corner, while the Jaguars are now a heavy zone defense under Anthony Campanile.

Liam Coen mentioned on Wednesday that the team was going to evaluate the cornerback position this week as far as playing time goes.

Now, what that might mean for Jones remains uncertain, but it’s difficult to envision a path towards playing time with Hunter gaining more experience and Newsome getting more acclimated to the Jacksonville scheme.

While I would expect the Jaguars to add rather than trade a player away, we have seen GM James Gladstone make player-for-player trades and be willing to move on from recent draft picks that he didn’t make.
