Denver Broncos fans will recognize a familiar face on the Houston Texans‘ special teams units this weekend.
After starring on special teams with the Broncos from 2023-2024, cornerback Tremon Smith left the club during free agency this offseason to return to Houston, where he previously played from 2021-2022. Smith was one of three in-house free agents that Denver lost after attempting to re-sign them this spring.

The 29-year-old defensive back has played 77% of the Texans‘ special teams snaps this fall after playing 83% of the Broncos’ special teams snaps in the previous two seasons. Smith also handles Houston’s kickoff return duties. He has 10 returns for 247 yards through seven games with the Texans this season.
Houston had another Denver cornerback, Ronald Darby, but he retired this summer. The Texans also have international defensive lineman Haggai Ndubuisi on their practice squad. Ndubuisi spent the 2023 season on the Broncos’ practice squad.
