With backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor battling a knee injury, the New York Jets hosted a pair of experienced signal-callers for workouts on Wednesday.
According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, the team brought in veteran quarterbacks Desmond Ridder and Dorian Thompson-Robinson for evaluations at their Florham Park facility.

Ridder, 26, was selected by the Atlanta Falcons in the third round of the 2022 NFL draft and has also spent time with the Arizona Cardinals, Las Vegas Raiders, and Minnesota Vikings throughout his professional career.

Across his 18 career starts in the NFL, Ridder led his teams to an 8-10 record while completing 64% of his passes for 4,002 yards, 16 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions.
Thompson-Robinson, selected by the Cleveland Browns in the fifth round of the 2023 draft, has been much more erratic than Ridder when stepping in as a starter at the NFL level.
In five total starts with Cleveland throughout the 2023 and 2024 seasons, Thompson-Robinson posted a 1-4 record while completing just 53% of his passing attempts for 880 yards, a touchdown, and 10 interceptions.
The fact that the Jets hosted two veterans for workouts during their bye-week practice week could mean Taylor’s knee injury is more serious than expected. Taylor did not travel to last week’s matchup in Cincinnati after being a limited participant in practice on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
The 15th-year veteran was in line to start over Justin Fields in Week 8 until being ruled out with a bone bruise in his knee. It continues a string of knee issues for the 36-year-old, who missed the preseason after undergoing a knee scope.
Since it is New York’s bye week, the team will not provide injury reports to the media until next Wednesday. Still, the decision to work out two quarterbacks with starting experience raises questions about Taylor’s availability moving forward.
Undrafted rookie Brady Cook currently rounds out the Jets’ quarterback depth chart. Cook suited up in Cincinnati as the backup behind Fields, but has yet to take a snap in the regular season.
