Should these players stay or be dealt before the deadline?

USA TODAY Sports’ Joe Rivera and Chirs Bumbaca break down which players might be traded before the 2025 NFL trade deadline on November 4th.

In another season, the Miami Dolphins (2-6) and Baltimore Ravens (2-5) are an intriguing “Thursday Night Football” matchup

Both squads entered the season with AFC playoff aspirations, but both are also entering a crucial point of no return in Week 9. With both teams on the outside of the playoff picture, both will need a broad stroke of luck in order to make it.

The Ravens are returning Lamar Jackson from a hamstring injury, which took a bit longer than some realized. Now, Baltimore looks to push forward and make something of a miracle run towards the postseason.

The Dolphins have dealt with their own share of injuries, but their 2-6 record is more indicative of organizational tumult than of injuries. They’ve been without Tyreek Hill since Week 4, who suffered a season-ending knee injury, and questions surrounding Tua Tagovailoa and Mike McDaniel’s job status have swirled.

That all makes for a pivotal moment for both squads, despite neither team having discovered winning ways this season.

USA TODAY Sports will provide live updates, highlights and more from the Week 9 “Thursday Night Football” matchup below. All times are Eastern.

Dolphins vs. Ravens prediction

The Ravens will get a boost from the returning Lamar Jackson. The two-time NFL MVP will likely swing the pendulum in favor of the Ravens in most games. Only four teams since the merger have made the playoffs after a 1-5 start, but the Ravens have as good a chance as any in recent history to become the fifth. Baltimore’s defense continues to have question marks but they are also getting healthy on that side of the ball. Derrick Henry should dominate the Dolphins’ run defense, which was functioning as one of the worst groups before mystifyingly shutting down Bijan Robinson last week. Baltimore bulldozes its way to a double-digit win.

Prediction: Ravens 30, Dolphins 20
