When it comes to the Cincinnati Bengals at the NFL trade deadline, the topics have been pretty dry.
Topics mostly focus on whether the team will sell names like Trey Hendrickson and Logan Wilson, if not Cam Taylor-Britt. There’s not usually a discussion about whether they could be buyers, either, not after seemingly getting that out of their system already with the Joe Flacco trade.
But there’s a new trade idea making the rounds early this week that suggests the Bengals go get Seattle Seahawks cornerback Riq Woolen, courtesy of ESPN’s Seth Walder:
“Last year, Notre Dame played more man coverage than any other FBS team under defensive coordinator Al Golden, who is now with Cincinnati. The Bengals have slightly leaned to more zone this season, but adding Woolen would allow Golden to play more man coverage. He also would make a good cornerback pairing with DJ Turner.”

With Taylor-Britt floundering on what is very clearly his last chance, the Bengals going to get a 26-year-old corner on the final year of his deal who fits the scheme might actually make a lot of sense.
In fact, Woolen is a good example of what the Bengals should probably be doing at the deadline.
Woolen might be able to help now if the team can stay alive until Joe Burrow’s return, sure. But he’d also be a nice piece for the future on a defense that clearly needs more than one offseason to completely reset the unit…unless they start right now with a move.
As far as low-profile moves go, the Bengals jumping on a deal like this would make a lot of sense.
