FRISCO — Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs made his first return to the practice field on Thursday since an undisclosed accident at his home on Oct. 16.

Diggs is still in concussion protocol two weeks later. The Cowboys also placed him on injured reserve last week.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and co-owner Stephen Jones have both said that they expect Diggs to return. The timing of what’s transpired and the upcoming trade deadline — as well as a potential out in his contract after this season — has sparked questions about Diggs’ future in Dallas.

Jones was asked on 105.3 The Fan (KRLD-FM) on Tuesday if he could see a scenario where Diggs has played his final game with the Cowboys. Jones said he didn’t see that, as of Tuesday, at all.

“Diggs’ biggest problem is he’s injured, and it’s not the same knee that he’s been doing his rehab with. So, that’s his No. 1 challenge,” Jones said. ”Unfortunately, he’s got a handful of challenges here that are physically related, and that’s why he was the status he’s got today.”

Diggs spent a part of Thursday’s practice running with Cowboys strength and conditioning coach Harold Nash Jr.

That would suggest Diggs is progressing in his concussion protocol rehabilitation.

Diggs will be eligible to return from injured reserve for the game on Thanksgiving against the Kansas City Chiefs.
