Jeff Ulbrich had a lofty comparison for New England Patriots running back Rhamondre Stevenson. When speaking with media members, the Atlanta Falcons’ defensive coordinator claimed Stevenson felt like Marshawn Lynch 2.0 when he faced him as the former interim head coach of the New York Jets.
Stevenson is a powerful back with versatility to his game to work as both a rusher and pass-catcher. He has 83 rushes for 279 yards and three touchdowns in a year where the Patriots have struggled to get their run game going consistently.
Regardless, it’s clear that Ulbrich has a deep respect for the veteran running back.
“Rhamondre, he is a hard tackle,” said Ulbrich. “The entire time in being with the Jets and playing him twice a year — he felt to me like Marshawn Lynch 2.0 — tough, rugged, physical. …We’re gonna have to play our most physical game. The most physical team will win this battle, especially up front.”
Any comparison to Lynch on the football field is obviously a huge compliment.
His physical running style was the trademark of his game, and it allowed him to become one of the most feared running backs in the NFL. Stevenson might not have as decorated a career as Lynch, but he certainly brings a physicality to the game that must be respected.
