Kansas City Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo spoke to reporters on Thursday, describing the defense’s strategy to stop Buffalo Bills running back James Cook.

“This is a real dynamic runner (Bills RB James Cook). We’ve faced a bunch of them already this season. This guy might be the tops of the crew. I think he is really – I’m always impressed with running backs that can make the jump cut behind the line of scrimmage and go and he can do that.” said Spagnuolo, “He really – I showed three of them this morning, he can capture that edge (and) he can convince an edge defender that he is going inside and then boom get outside on them and that’s where he is really dangerous, because he’s got really good speed. He can do it all. I mean, he’s going to look to cut back on us – it looks to me like they really are trying to feature their run game and they’re doing a really good job of it.”

Cook earned AFC Offensive Player of the Week honors in Week 8, recording a career-high 216 rushing yards on 19 carries and had two rushing touchdowns in Buffalo’s 40-9 win at Carolina. Cook became the fifth player since 1990 with at least 200 rushing yards and multiple rushing touchdowns on fewer than 20 rushing attempts.

Cook has been one of the best running backs in the league this season, accumulating 753 yards on 126 carries and seven touchdowns.
