ASU football’s Cam Skattebo, Sam Leavitt celebrate Big 12 title win

Cam Skattebo and Sam Leavitt celebrate during halftime of the AIA Open Division championship after beating Iowa State to win the Big 12 championship.

Did the New York Giants get a steal with their NFL draft selection of Cam Skattebo in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft?

Some NFL writers have been high on Skattebo’s immediate fit with the Giants since he was taken with the No. 105 overall pick in April.

Now, odds are high on the running back’s chances to succeed immediately in New York’s backfield.

Skattebo comes in at +6000 in odds to be the AP Offensive Rookie of the Year, courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook, tied for 20th in the odds.

Not too shabby for a fourth-round NFL draft selection.

Is Cam Skattebo a serious contender for NFL rookie of the year?

Skattebo, who shined at Arizona State, is expected to carve out an instant role for the Giants offense, perhaps splitting time with Tyrone Tracy Jr., who had 192 carries for 839 yards and five touchdowns after being a fifth-round pick of the Giants in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Skattebo certainly knows how to contribute. He had 293 rushing attempts for 17,111 yards with the Sun Devils last season, also catching 45 passes for 605 yards.

He had 21 rushing touchdowns and three receiving touchdowns, finishing fifth in voting for the Heisman Trophy and leading ASU to the Big 12 championship and a College Football Playoff appearance.

Could his versatility help Skattebo make a run at the NFL offensive rookie of the year award? If he can earn a solid role early with the Giants, you can’t count him out.
