On Friday, Georgia Tech football released information on its 2026 season tickets. Included was the location of the out-of-conference clash scheduled with Tennessee. The game between the Vols and Yellow Jackets is a home game for Georgia Tech, but rumors began to surface of a possible move to have it played in Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
That won’t be the case, though. Georgia Tech vice president and director of athletics Ryan Alpert, who was hired from Tennessee, offered two scenarios for the football team’s schedule and left it up to a vote. The result was by far in favor of having all home games played at Bobby Dodd Stadium, including the matchup with the Vols.
“We’re very grateful to all the Georgia Tech fans that provided their input as we considered the options for our 2026 home football schedule and season tickets,” Alpert said. “Our administration places great importance on listening to our fans and incorporating their perspectives into our decisions. In this case, the feedback was clear – the history, tradition and emotion of playing football at Bobby Dodd Stadium at Hyundai Field is very important to Georgia Tech fans. We’re especially excited for Georgia Tech students, as having another home football weekend on campus – against a highly regarded opponent like Tennessee – will only enhance the student experience next fall.
“We’d also like to thank our great partners at AMB Sports & Entertainment and Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The leadership at AMBSE has been nothing but supportive as we explored the possibility of playing our full home slate on campus next year. We are still scheduled to play at least one home game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in the future, and will continue to explore possibilities to do so once we gain more clarity on what future schedules will look like due to the addition of a ninth ACC game.”

Georgia Tech will return the trip to Knoxville in 2027 for a Tennessee home game in the series. This season, the Yellow Jackets are off to a strong campaign with an 8-0 record and perfect 5-0 mark in ACC play. Remaining on the schedule are NC State, Boston College, Pitt and Georgia.
However, both the Vols and Georgia Tech will have new quarterbacks by the time they meet in a year. Tennessee’s Joey Aguilar and GT’s Haynes King will be out of eligibility following this season.
Also on the schedule for UT in 2026 include Furman and Kennesaw State. The other nine games will be against SEC opponents. In 2027, it’ll be Georgia Tech, Tennessee State and Western Michigan. 2028 marks a neutral-site game in Charlotte vs. West Virginia, before a home game against Washington in 2029 and a return game with the Huskies in 2030.
