NFL fines Baltimore Ravens $100,000 over inaccurate injury report involving Lamar Jackson

PEDRO. THERE WAS A JOLT OF ENERGY THIS AFTERNOON AS LAMAR JACKSON TOOK THE PRACTICE FIELD. NOW, IT CAME ABOUT FIVE MINUTES AFTER THE OTHER QUARTERBACKS HAD TAKEN THE FIELD FOR PRACTICE, AND IT SEEMED LIKE HE WAS NOT GOING TO BE OUT ON THE FIELD YET AGAIN, REALLY DIMMING HOPES FOR THIS WEEKEND AGAINST THE CHICAGO BEARS SINCE THEY HAVE NOT PLAYED WELL AT ALL, HAVE NOT WON A GAME WITHOUT LAMAR JACKSON THIS SEASON. IN FACT, WHAT THE RAVENS HAVE DONE WITHOUT LAMAR THROUGHOUT HIS CAREER WHEN HE’S HERE AND NOT A STARTER, RAVENS ARE FOUR AND 11 WITH HIM. THEY’RE 74 AND 32. SO YEAH, A PRETTY BIG DIFFERENCE NOW TAKING PART IN A LIMITED FASHION. HE WAS ONLY DOING SOME REPS. HE CERTAINLY WAS NOT GOING FULL SPEED. SO WHAT DOES THAT MEAN FOR SUNDAY. WE’LL HAVE TO SEE IF IT’S JUST A RAMP UP. THEY’RE TAKING IT SLOWLY WITH PLANNING ON HIM PLAYING AGAINST THE BEARS, OR IF THIS IS JUST PART OF A GOT TO WAIT AND SEE HOW THAT HAMSTRING RESPONDS EACH AND EVERY DAY TO A LITTLE BIT MORE AND A LITTLE BIT MORE. REGARDLESS, THOUGH, CONSIDERING ONLY MARLON HUMPHREY, WHO DID PRACTICE MONDAY, WASN’T OUT THERE, AND TAVIUS ROBINSON, WHO WE KNOW WON’T BE THERE FOR ANOTHER SIX WEEKS, THOSE ARE THE ONLY OTHER TWO PLAYERS NOT AVAILABLE FOR PRACTICE ON THIS DAY. YOU GOT TO FEEL LIKE THERE’S A MUCH BETTER CHANCE FOR THE RAVENS TO SNAP THIS FOUR GAME SKID AND GET BACK INTO A PLAYOFF RACE. CERTAINLY, WITH THE JOLT OF ENERGY THAT EIGHT BROUGHT ABOARD HERE IN OWING

NEW YORK —

The Baltimore Ravens have been fined $100,000 by the NFL for incorrectly listing star quarterback Lamar Jackson as a full participant in practice on Oct. 24.

The league disclosed the fine for violating the injury report policy Friday.

A week earlier, Baltimore listed Jackson as a full participant and said he was questionable for that week’s game against Chicago. Then a day later, the Ravens ruled the two-time MVP out for that game and said he’d actually been limited in practice the previous day.

Baltimore said the reason for the mix-up was that he’d participated in the entire practice but wasn’t taking starter reps, which made him limited according to league policy.

The Ravens said Friday they would not appeal the NFL’s ruling.

“It is critical that the Baltimore Ravens always operate with integrity and in full accordance with NFL guidelines. We clearly made an error regarding player injury reporting and cooperated transparently with the league’s investigation,” the team said in a statement. “We accept the decision by the NFL that we violated the policy and have taken steps to ensure that we will be compliant moving forward.”
