Promising Cowboys linebacker DeMarvion Overshown suffered another injury in practice this week, but COO/co-owner Stephen Jones says the team isn’t expecting it to impact Overshown’s return from his previous injury.

The 25-year-old is yet to play a game this season after suffering a devastating injury last season in which he tore his ACL, MCL and PCL in one fell swoop.

As he’s steadily progressed toward a return, the Cowboys opened Overshown’s 21-day practice window in October with the former third-round pick projected to return to action in Week 11 against the Raiders.

A scary scene at Thursday’s practice, however, cast a bit of doubt on that among Cowboys fans. Overshown left practice with what appeared to be a hand or finger injury and walked off the field.

In Jones’ weekly appearance with 105.3 The Fan (KRLD-FM), the Cowboys executive both gave an official diagnosis for Overshown’s injury and offered some good news, as well.

“Overshown had a little thumb issue,” Jones said Friday. “If it’s your thumb it’s not a little thumb issue, I’m sure. If it were mine I’d say ‘Damn thing hurts.’ But at the end of the day [he] dislocated the top part of his thumb, was able to get right back out to practice.”

Jones said Overshown is “trending in a real good direction” to play against Las Vegas.

Jones also said that, in general, the Cowboys are on the uptick when it comes to health, with the team expecting starting center Cooper Beebe to return from a sprained ankle this week as well, and their game of musical chairs at safety is starting to settle down a bit as well with Donovan Wilson and Malik Hooker both recovering from injury.

The Cowboys have an extra day to recover before taking the field this weekend, set for a Monday night kickoff against the Cardinals.
