Denver Broncos cornerback Pat Surtain (pec), tight end Nate Adkins (knee), wide receiver Marvin Mims (concussion protocol) and special teams safety P.J. Locke (neck) have been ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans.
With Surtain sidelined, Kris Abrams-Draine seems to be the frontrunner to start in his place, but rookie Jahdae Barron is an option as well. KAD and Barron will both get playing time regardless of who starts across from Riley Moss.
On offense, the team brought in veteran Marcedes Lewis to help replace Adkins as Denver’s new blocking tight end. If he’s elevated from the practice squad, the 41-year-old Lewis will become the oldest player to appear in a regular season (or postseason) game in franchise history.
The candidates to replace Mims as a returner include running backs Tyler Badie, RJ Harvey and Jaleel McLaughlin. On offense, Mims’ absence could mean more reps for Troy Franklin and rookie Pat Bryant.
Elsewhere on the injury front, backup center Alex Forsyth (ankle) has no designation after being limited at the last two days of practice. View the complete injury report below.
Sunday’s game (11:00 a.m. MT) will be regionally televised on Fox (view the TV broadcast map). Denver’s considered a slight road underdog against Houston.
