Atlanta Falcons edge rusher Leonard Floyd has been fined $11,593 by the NFL for an unnecessary roughness penalty he committed during last week’s loss to the Miami Dolphins, according to a report from ESPN’s Marc Raimondi. The fine comes as a result of a facemask penalty that was called on Floyd in the second quarter of Sunday’s game.
The Falcons defense had one of its worst performances against one of the NFL’s worst teams in Week 8, but they will attempt to end their two-game losing streak against the New England Patriots in Week 9. Atlanta may not have Floyd for Sunday’s road matchup, though.
Both Floyd and rookie linebacker Jalon Walker were listed as questionable on the team’s final Week 9 injury report. Walker has missed the last few games with a groin injury, but Floyd has yet to miss a game this season.
The veteran edge rusher has nine tackles (three solo), 1.5 sacks and seven QB hits in seven games for the Falcons.
The Falcons and Patriots will kick things off on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET inside Gillette Stadium. New England leads the AFC East with a 6-2 record. Quarterback Drake Maye is having a breakout season, so Atlanta’s defense will need all the help it can get.
Check back at 11:30 a.m. ET on Sunday for the team’s official inactives list to see whether or not Floyd and Walker play against the Patriots.
