GREEN BAY − A day before hosting the Carolina Panthers, the Green Bay Packers placed linebacker and core special-teams member Nick Niemann on injured reserve.
Niemann injured his pectoral muscle in the second half of last week’s victory against the Pittsburgh Steelers. He did not practice last week. Signed to the Packers roster at the end of training camp, the fifth-year veteran’s 114 special-teams snaps this season rank third on the team behind linebacker Isaiah McDuffie and Ty’Ron Hopper. Niemann will miss at least the next four games before he’s eligible to return.
The Packers signed linebacker Kristian Welch to the active roster from the practice squad to fill Niemann’s vacancy. Welch has not played this season but is considered a reliable special-teams contributor.
The Packers also elevated defensive end Arron Mosby from the practice squad to the active roster for game day. It’s Mosby’s third straight week being elevated to the active roster for game day, exhausting his maximum elevations allowed in a season. The Packers will need to sign him to the 53-man roster, as they did with Welch, for Mosby to play again this season.
