Jaxson Dart frustrated by how Giants were outplayed by Eagles
Jaxson Dart takes losses hard, and the Giants’ rookie was accountable, acknowledging he knows he plays a position that is judged by wins and losses.
It was a loss in more ways than one for the New York Giants in Week 8.
Despite losing in Philadelphia for a 13th consecutive time in a 38-20 defeat at the hands of the Eagles on Sunday, the biggest loss for the G-Men came in the second quarter.
Giants running back Cam Skattebo suffered a dislocated ankle when he was twisted down to the ground by Eagles linebacker Zack Baun, which resulted in him being carted off the field with an air cast on his right leg.
While he’s expected to make a full recovery, the injury is a season-ending one for Skattebo, who sensational rookie season is drastically cut short.
The Jaxson Dart led Giants (2-6) must move forward and find answers offensively without Skattebo as they welcome in the San Francisco 49ers (5-3) on Sunday afternoon at MetLife Stadium.

Here are our staff predictions for the Giants vs. 49ers from MetLife Stadium in Week 9:
Art Stapleton
The pick: Giants 28, 49ers 24
Here’s why: Jaxson Dart is the first rookie QB in NFL history with at least eight TD passes and at least four rushing TDs through his first five career starts. Expect RB Tyrone Tracy to step up in Cam Skattebo’s absence. The Giants were on the short end of a tough whistle in Philadelphia, and after winning the first meeting, the defending Super Bowl champions flipped the script and were the more physical football team on both sides of the ball. That can’t happen Sunday. Dart is undefeated in two games at home as the starting QB, beating the Chargers and the Eagles. Maybe if the Giants can figure out a way to not be a sieve against the run, they can pull off the upset.
Bert Bainbridge
The pick:Â 49ers 31, Giants 17
Here’s why:Â In the first game post-Skattebo, Big Blue’s offense could truly take some time to find their rhythm again with two focal points — Skattebo and Malik Nabers — out of the picture for the Giants offense. The problem here is the mismatch between the Giants rushing defense and 49ers RB Christian McCaffrey. The G-Men run defense surrender the third most rushing yards per game in the NFL (148.9) and now face McCaffrey, who is coming off of a down game in Houston but has been one of the best duel threats RBs in the league this season, with his 56 receptions leading all running backs by a wide margin and is only behind Bengals’ WR Ja’Marr Chase (58) for most catches in the NFL.
Add in another game back from injury for 49ers tight end George Kittle and starting QB Brock Purdy likely returning from injury, I envision it will be a long day for the Giants on both sides of the ball as they concede 30+ points for a third consecutive game.
Brian Marron
The pick: Giants 24, 49ers 16
Here’s why: The Giants are dealing with key injuries, but no team in the NFL is as banged up as the 49ers. There is still uncertainty for San Francisco at quarterback, and the defense showed major red flags last weekend against the Texans. The Giants, even without Cam Skattebo and Malik Nabers, should be able to put together long and time-consuming drives like Houston did to take advantage of the depleted 49ers and pull off an upset.
Bob Jordan
The pick: 49ers 24, Giants 21
Here’s why: The Giants beat themselves last week but honestly their opponents were both the Eagles and the Zebras. Turning the page, Big Blue will be about a field goal underdog – Giants were 3-6 last year against the spread as a home underdog and are 2-1 this year.
Dave Rivera
The pick: Giants 24, 49ers 21
Here’s why: If anybody can understand what the Giants are going through regarding injuries, it’s the 49ers. But unlike the Giants, the 49ers are getting their star players back this season. Jaxson Dart and the Giants have played better at home, the MetLife Stadium crowd will be behind them, and they’ll show the fight to pull this one out.
