When the Browns went into the bye week last season they were a rotten 2-7. Surely things couldn’t have been any worse this season, right?

Well, that’s technically true. The Browns are 2-6 at the bye. But the vibes are just as bad in Cleveland — or worse.

Fortunately for Browns fans, the get a week off from watching one of the worst offenses in the NFL.

Said Cleveland offense is scoring just 15.8 points per game, ranking 30th in the NFL. Here’s a weird stat: Through eight weeks, no team is attempting more passes per game than the Browns, at 37.8 a game. And yet, the Browns are 30th in passing yards per game at 174.

It gets worse. The Browns average a league-worst 4.1 yards per game. In the last three games, that dips further to just 3.7.

It’s still hard to figure out if the issue is coach Kevin Stefanski and his playcalling, or his woeful skill position players on offense, namely at quarterback and wide receiver. Maybe that can be settled over the final nine games of the season.

For now the debate can rage on another week with the Browns having this one off.
