DETROIT, Mich. (WNEM) – Coming off their bye week, the Detroit Lions looked to defend their den as they took on the Minnesota Vikings at Ford Field.
The Lions would get off to a fast start, as Jared Goff would find Sam LaPorta, who fought his way in for a 40-yard touchdown.
The Vikings would answer back as former University of Michigan quarterback, J.J. McCarthy would throw touchdown passes on back-to-back drives to Justin Jefferson and former Lion, T.J. Hockenson to give Minnesota a 14-7 lead.
The Lions tie the game in the 2nd quarter with a two-yard run into the endzone by David Montgomery to tie the game. Vikings would add a field goal to take a 17-14 lead into the half.
After a great kick return, McCarthy would once again strike, this time on the ground as he runs it in from nine-yard out to add to their lead.
Each team would add a field goal before Goff would find Jameson Williams for a 37-yard touchdown to make it a 27-24 game with under two minutes left in the game.
The Lions offense had a chance to get the ball back, but McCarthy would find Jalen Nailor for a first down to put the game away.
Vikings beat the Lions 27-24, as Detroit drops to 5-3 on the season. Vikings go to 4-4.
In McCarthy’s first game since week two and in his return to the state of Michigan, he would throw for 143 yards and three total touchdowns
Jared Goff would throw for 284 yards and two touchdowns.
Lions will be back on the road next week as they face the Washington Commanders.
