Fans of the Pittsburgh Steelers finally have a reason to celebrate, with the two-game losing streak coming to an end after an impressive Week 9 win over the Indianapolis Colts.
On both sides of the ball, some standouts — and duds — from the Week 9 matchup deserve to be recognized. Here are the biggest winners and losers from the Steelers‘ win over the Colts.
WinnersDarnell Washington
Besides botching a potential touchdown pass early in the contest on 4th down, Washington looked phenomenal in the win over Indianapolis — catching four passes for 43 yards, the second-most on offense, as he’s quickly cementing himself as one of Aaron Rodgers’ favorite targets.
Payton Wilson
Intercepting Colts QB Daniel Jones once and batting down another pass for an interception, Wilson’s impact on defense was felt throughout the contest. Leading the team with 13 combined tackles, the future of the linebacker room looks bright in Pittsburgh.
Alex Highsmith
Highsmith must’ve heard the recent trade buzz or “start Nick Herbig” pleas on social media, as he tore through the Colts’ offense like tissue paper. Finishing the night with two sacks and a forced fumble, as well as making huge plays in both run coverage and pass defense, Highsmith cemented his spot opposite T.J. Watt for the time being.
Jalen Ramsey
Jalen Ramsey at safety is a terrifying sight for any opposing offense — as evidenced in the win over the Colts. Ramsey preached physicality and bringing an edge back to the defense ahead of Week 9, which is exactly what he did on Sunday. Delivering massive hits on any and all Colts pass catchers, this is why Pittsburgh brought Ramsey in this offseason.
LosersJaylen Warren
While usually one of the Steelers’ best weapons on offense, Warren just couldn’t get anything going against the Colts in terms of yardage, finishing the game with 18 touches for 29 yards from scrimmage — an embarrassing average of 1.61 yards. He scored twice on the ground, but there’s no debating he was arguably the least efficient playmaker in the win.
Roman Wilson
Coming off a breakout game last week against the Green Bay Packers, Wilson’s play against the Colts was nothing short of disappointing. After failing to catch a ball for the majority of the game, Wilson finally got his lone reception in the final minutes. Instead of falling down to keep the clock running, Wilson prioritized his stats over the team, attempting to hurdle a slew of Indianapolis defenders — fumbling in the process.
DK Metcalf
Week 9’s win over Indianapolis just wasn’t Metcalf’s night, with the Steelers wideout being taken out of the equation early by the Colts’ secondary — finishing the contest with two catches for six yards. Drops are beginning to characterize his early Steelers tenure, with his only highlight of the game being a recovered onside kick.
