After signing with the Denver Broncos‘ practice squad last week, 41-year-old tight end Marcedes Lewis was elevated to the game-day roster over the weekend. He then played six snaps in an 18-15 win over the Houston Texans, making franchise and NFL history in the process.

Lewis became the oldest player in Broncos history to appear in a regular or postseason game, and he became the oldest tight end to play in the NFL’s Super Bowl era.

“It feels amazing,’’ Lewis said after the game, via the Denver Gazette’s Chris Tomasson. “It’s special and I don’t take it for granted.”

Now in his 20th season, Lewis is just the sixth non-quarterback/kicker in NFL history to reach that milestone, joining Jerry Rice, Darrell Green, Junior Seau, Jim Marshall and Jackie Slater.

Lewis served as the team’s No. 3 tight end behind Evan Engram and Adam Trautman on Sunday. He will likely be elevated to the game-day roster again when the Broncos host the Las Vegas Raiders on Thursday Night Football later this week.
