Over the last few seasons, New York Giants defensive lineman Dexter Lawrence has exemplified consistency for the defense. He has frequently been mentioned as one of the premier defensive linemen in the NFL, if not the best overall.
The Giants’ defense endured another challenging performance on Sunday, allowing more than 30 points for the third consecutive game, during which Lawrence was largely unremarkable. After tallying 9.0 sacks in 12 games during the previous season, Lawrence has been a far cry from the dominant force that fans have come to expect.

Following Sunday’s loss, Lawrence was asked whether he had any interest in playing elsewhere ahead of the NFL trade deadline on Tuesday. The four-time team captain responded succinctly to reporters.
“I don’t,” Lawrence said.
Lawrence, of course, faced criticism from Giants legend Carl Banks last week, who asserted that opponents no longer fear him as they once did — a view that Lawrence firmly rejected.

Lawrence, acquired by the Giants via one of the draft picks from the Odell Beckham Jr. trade, remains the sole first-round selection from 2019 still on the roster. He inked a lucrative four-year contract extension in May 2023 and is under contract through the 2027 season.
