‘I thought they answered the bell’ | Colin Cowherd and John Middlekauff, The Colin Cowherd Podcast

On Cowherd’s podcast, Middlekauff said Buffalo needed a win against Kansas City given its record in the AFC East. The Bills are right below New England in the division, one of their two losses in 2025 after Week 9. While the rivalry between them and the Chiefs is enough to fight for a win, Middlekauff also said Buffalo needs to remain even keeled with the Patriots.

“This year for the Bills, you just have to hold serve with the Patriots. They have an easier schedule than you, they keep taking care of business. If they would have lost today, they would have been at a one-game deficit, and they’ve already lost to them. So, there was a lot of pressure and in fairness, I thought they answered the bell. Beside a couple plays in the second half, they were really good.”

Cowherd said Mahomes’ comfort level, or lack thereof, played a huge role in Sunday’s outcome. Buffalo’s defense had three sacks and 15 quarterback hits. Cowherd said that the Bills defense played with more intensity given the high-par opponent.

“Bosa is healthy, he’s 30, Greg Rousseau [is] 25, A.J. Epenesa is 27 – you know, these guys are in their athletic prime and they’ve drafted pretty well in the backend … we talk a lot about Buffalo’s defense all year … defensive players are about wrecking things, and I do think when you take that Buffalo defensive front and they play Mahomes, they play differently … the defensive front [on Sunday] for Buffalo knew the red light was on. That’s what it felt like to me. It felt like they played with way more energy. Many of the same players played above what they’ve been playing at all year.”
