NFL Overreactions Week 8: Green Bay tops Rodgers, Fields sparks Jets

USA TODAY Sports’ Prince Grimes ‘overreacts’ to some of the best games from Sunday’s Week 8 slate.

Look back at our live updates from the Week 9 NFL game between the Arizona Cardinals and Dallas Cowboys, which was being played at the Cowboys’ AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on Nov. 3.

Cardinals cornerback Denzel Burke intercepted a pass from the Cowboys’ Dak Prescott to secure a 27-17 victory on Monday Night Football.

Jacoby Brissett, making the start in place of injured Cardinals QB Kyler Murray, was 21-for-31 passing for 261 yards and two touchdowns. He was sacked five times for a loss of 40 yards. Brissett had five carries for 4 yards and a rushing touchdown.

Meanwhile, Cowboys QB Dak Prescott was 24-for-39 for 250 yards with a touchdown and an interception. He was also sacked five times for 40 yards. Prescott had four carries for 34 yards.

Marvin Harrison Jr. had a new personal-best with seven receptions. The second-year receiver finished with 96 yards and a touchdown.

Emari Demercado led the Cardinals with 14 carries for 79 yards.

The Cardinals (3-5) play at Seattle on Nov. 9.

Jacoby Brissett completed a 19-yard pass to Trey McBride for a first down that erased one sack, but the Cardinals gave up another.

Add in a 5-yard false start penalty and a pair of negative plays, and the Cardinals faced a third-and-23 from their own 30.

If the Cowboys come back to win the game, that fourth-quarter series will be one for the Cardinals to revisit — or desperately try to forget.

Score: Cardinals 27, Cowboys 17 (6:52 Q4)

Dak Prescott completed a 5-yard pass to Ryan Flournoy to pull within 10 points, 27-17.

The drive lasted just over 2 minutes and was exactly what the Cowboys needed to get back into the game. J Williams had a key 19-yard run.

Dallas also fumbled twice on the drive — on consecutive plays — but recovered both of them.

Score: Cardinals 27, Cowboys 17 (10:51 Q4)

Cardinals linebacker Mack Wilson left the game with 12:48. Wilson took a hit to his torso, but was able to leave the field unassisted.

Wilson leads the Cardinals with seven tackles, including three solo, against the Cowboys. He also has a forced fumble.

The Cardinals are 7-for-10 on third down conversions, while the Cowboys are just 4-for-9. That’s just one statistic that tells the story in Dallas.

Arizona QB Jacoby Brissett is 18-for-27 for 236 yards and two touchdowns. Meanwhile, Dallas QB Dak Prescott is 15-for-27 for 176 yards.

Score: Cardinals 27, Cowboys 10 (End Q3)

The Cardinals were methodical in their first drive of the second half. They needed just three plays to cover 74 yards in 2:12. The key play was a 50-yard pass from Brissett to Michael Wilson.

The Cowboys tacked on a 26-yard field goal midway through the quarter.

With 3:58 to play in the first half, the Cardinals’ offense went to work.

Jacoby Brissett completed passes to Elijah Higgins and Marvin Harrison Jr. Bam Knight had runs of 8, 12 and 5 yards. Greg Dortch had a carry of 9 yards.

Score: Cardinals 17, Cowboys 7 (0:49 Q2)

Pat O’Donnell’s punt from the Arizona 36 was blocked by Sam Williams. Dallas’ Marshawn Kneeland recovered the ball at the Arizona 8 and returned it for a touchdown.

The sequence came at the end of a short series for the Cardinals that began when they recovered a fumble by the Cowboys.

Could the play save the Cowboys’ season?

Score: Cardinals 10, Cowboys 7 (3:50 Q2)

Dak Prescott completed a short pass to Jake Ferguson on third down, but a fumble forced by Mack Wilson gave the ball back to the Cardinals. Budda Baker recovered the ball for the Cardinals at their own 23.

Jacoby Brissett completed a 4-yard touchdown pass to Marvin Harrison Jr. as the wide receiver continues to build an impressive statistical line. Boos rained as Harrison hauled in the pass.

Brissett has gone to Harrison for third-down conversions three times. The second-year receiver has five catches for 64 yards. He’s been targeted seven times.

Score: Cardinals 10, Cowboys 0 (12:17 Q2)

Arizona takes over on its own 11.

ARLINGTON, Texas — Former President George W. Bush did the game-opening coin toss at midfield, with the Cardinals winning the toss and electing to defer.

President Bush and former First Lady Laura Bush were met with raucous applause by the home crowd at AT&T Stadium. The former president shook hands with Cardinals captains Calais Campbell, Budda Baker, Mack Wilson Sr. and Hjalte Froholdt before doing the toss. The stadium public address system, though, cut off his microphone as he greeted the quartet of Cardinals.

ARLINGTON, Texas — The Arizona Cardinals brought a healthy contingent of fans to AT&T Stadium for Monday Night Football. A good amount of red is dotting the stands behind the Cardinals’ sideline, with a particularly large group near the west end zone.

The organization debuted an annual VIP travel package for this week’s game, with a group of fans taking a chartered flight from Phoenix for the game.

After previously stating that Murray would be available in some capacity against the Cowboys, despite not being the starting quarterback, things changed on Monday, Nov. 3.

Murray, who injured his foot in Week 5, will be inactive on Nov. 3.

The Arizona Cardinals got a pair of major injury boosts ahead of Monday Night Football against the Dallas Cowboys. They officially activated defensive tackle Walter Nolen and cornerback Garrett Williams from injured reserve.Nolen, their first-round pick in April, will make his NFL debut. He had been sidelined since July with a calf injury, but should instantly give Arizona one of its most explosive pass rushers. That’s a significant help for an interior defensive line that has struggled to find high-level production beyond 39-year-old Calais Campbell.Nolen returned to practice in Week 7 ahead of the Cardinals’ bye. He has participated in each of their past seven practices in preparation for this return.Williams, meanwhile, was perhaps the Cardinals’ best defensive player a year ago, but he suffered a knee injury on a collision with Budda Baker in Week 2. The Cardinals now have a fully healthy secondary, with Williams at nickel cornerback, Will Johnson and Max Melton on the outside and Baker and Jalen Thompson at safety. That group is returning to health at the best possible time: Ahead of a matchup with Cowboys receivers CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens, the best wide receiver duo in the NFL so far this season.

The Cardinals also elevated running back Michael Carter from the practice squad, as Jonathan Gannon suggested they would earlier in the week. Carter joins Bam Knight and Emari Demercado in the Cardinals’ backfield.
