WILMINGTON, Ill. — West Hancock drove 81 yards on its first possession of Saturday’s Illinois High School Association Class 2A playoff football game against No. 2-ranked Wilmington.

The Titans came up short, turning the ball over on downs at the 6-yard line. The Wildcats took over and went 94 yards in four plays on their way to a 70-8 victory over West Hancock.

The Titans had the ball for the first 8 minutes of the game running 15 plays on their drive, six pass plays and nine running plays.

The offensive balance between running and passing had been the staple of the 2025 Titans under head coach Coy Dorothy.

That balance was shut down by the Wildcats Saturday.

The Titans ran the ball 22 times for 10 yards. Chandler Dadant had 16 carries for no yards gained. Jess Scott ran four times for nine yards Hunter Froman had one carry but lost four yards. Froman caught seven passes for 159 yards. Scott had four catches for 13 yards. Jordan Crowley had four catches for 49 yards. dadant also caught a pass.

Brayden Carter was 16-for-27 passing for 215 yards with an interception. Carter scored the team’s only touchdown on a 5-yard run in the third quarter.

The Wildcats four-play drive was the longest they held the ball of their nine possessions in the game.

The Titans’ second possession ended in an interception return for a touchdown.

The next two possessions ended with punts and the next was ended on a fumble.

The Titans turned the ball over three times in the game after having four turnover the whole season.

Wilmington never passed the ball, rushing 19 times for 412 yards.

Scott had three tackles to lead the defense.

The 12 seed Titans finish 6-4. The 5 seed Wildcats are 9-1 and play 4 seed Seneca this week.

Other Lincoln Trail-Prairieland teams in the playoffs were 1A Knoxville, which lost to Clifton Central 24-6; 2A Illini West, which lost to Rockridge 56-12; Farmington, seeded third in 2A defeated 14 seed Lanark 10-8; 4A Macomb, which won 21-6 over Country Club Hills.

For those who root for the underdogs, the only 16 seed to beat a No. 1 in the IHSA playoffs, Jacksonville beat Olney 41-39 in the 4A bracket.
