The coming Eagles-Packers MNF matchup may actually be a bigger revenge game for Philadelphia than it is for Green Bay.

Last January, it didn’t take long to figure out the Philadelphia Eagles were the best team on the field during their annihilation of the Green Bay Packers during the Wild Card Round.

The home team appeared to be the better team from the opening whistle. They looked like the more physical team. It’s almost as if The Pack wanted to showcase some finesse while the Birds had shown up looking for a fistfight.

The lasting memory of that one will forever be Dallas Goedert stiff-arming Carrington Valentine three times en route to the end zone. Months later, his catch-and-run is still as beautiful as it was when we saw it in real time.

The Eagles put both boot and belt to Green Bay. The Packers never really got their bearings back, and rather than just taking the loss and moving on, they filed an injunction asking league offices to ban Philadelphia’s infamous Brotherly Shove. Say what you will. That one sort of smacks of sore loser vibes.

Did we mention that these two teams meet again during the final game of Week 10? There are many subplots surrounding the next Monday Night Football game.

What if we told you that Monday Night Football may actually double as a revenge game for the Eagles?

It seems like it’s been forever, but Philadelphia had its day in court this offseason. The Packers lit the match. They found supporters, including NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.

But the Eagles found nine other teams to support them. In the end, the proposed ban of Philadelphia’s infamous play fell short as the votes were counted. The final tally matched the same 22-10 margin that the Eagles beat the Packers by in the Wild Card Round.

That’s pretty poetic. How perfect a statement was that?

So, after all that, we fast-forward to the present. The Eagles and Packers meet again for the 49th time in their storied histories, but despite beating The Pack on the gridiron twice last season (Don’t forget Week 1 in Brazil) and after beating them during their day in court, this still feels like the Eagles’ revenge game.

We thought we’d need to mention using A.J. Dillon as a battering ram, but it now seems the angle we’ll be discussing involves the new guy. Never in a million years did we think we’d be discussing Jaire Alexander playing his former team as a member of the Eagles. That’s how quickly things shift in the NFL.

And, since the Eagles can average as much as three to four yards during a Tush Push, why not run that same play all the way down the field on the first offensive drive? Why not just ‘Brotherly Shove’ their way down the Lambeau Field turf and into the end zone to drive the point home?

That’s what Buddy Ryan would have done. Monday Night Football is shaping up to be a classic. Two of the NFC’s best teams face off. Two of the best young quarterbacks in the game will duel. Nope! We wouldn’t miss this one for the world.
