Matt Campbell provides an update on Iowa State tight end Ben Brahmer
Hear from Iowa State head coach Matt Campbell as he provides an update on Cyclones’ tight end Benjamin Brahmer, who left the game after a hard hit in the fourth.
Week 9 of the 2025 NFL season is in the books, and several former Iowa State football players had huge hands in the performances of their teams.
The collection of ex-Cyclones in the NFL continues to grow, with several more added to rosters this season after having around a dozen consistently active last season. While star-studded names like Breece Hall, Allen Lazard and David Montgomery dominate the alumni list, several others who Iowa State fans will recognize are making significant impacts at the pro level, too.
With that, here are three ex-Cyclones who stood out in Week 9 of the NFL season.
Charlie Kolar, Baltimore Ravens TE
No doubt, everyone on the Ravens was happy to see Lamar Jackson back under center in Baltimore’s 28-6 win over the Miami Dolphins on Thursday Night Football. That includes Kolar, who snagged his fourth career NFL touchdown in the win.
The former Iowa State tight end finished with two catches for 23 yards on two targets. Kolar’s role has slowly expanded in this his fourth pro season. Through eight games, Kolar is four catches and 67 yards away from setting new single-season highs.
David Montgomery, Detroit Lions RB
It was a rare dud from the Detroit Lions in their 27-24 home loss to the Minnesota Vikings, but that didn’t stop Montgomery from producing a decent day.
The former Iowa State running back finished with 11 carries for 40 yards and a touchdown, while also adding two catches for 10 yards. His two-yard score midway through the second quarter pulled the Lions even at 14-14.
On the season, Montgomery has 89 carries for 395 yards and five TDs to go with 13 catches for 106 yards.
Xavier Hutchinson, Houston Texans WR
You’re bound to find a Texans wide receiver on this list just about every week, with three ex-Cyclones comprising Houston’s wideout group.
In the Texans’ 18-15 loss to the Denver Broncos that saw starting quarterback CJ Stroud suffer a concussion, Hutchinson led the alumni charge with three catches for 30 yards. The former Iowa State wide receiver has slowly seen his role expand in he offense, having already set career-highs in receptions (21) and yards (222) this year.   Â
