During his Tuesday press conference, Mike Tomlin provided an injury update ahead of the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Week 10 game against the Los Angeles Chargers. Per Tomlin, the team is keeping the light on for several players.

“We have a number of things going on with people,” Tomlin said via the team’s YouTube channel. “Don’t have a lot of significant updates. I’m certain that I will get more clarity as we push forward throughout the week. Scotty Miller is out with his finger. We’ll see how he’s able to function at some point this week. Cole Holcomb is still out with his illness. We’ll keep an eye on him and we’ll see what his level of participation is.

“Isaac Seumalo is still nursing a pec like he was managing at the early portions of last week. He was able to function for us. [Jabrill Peppers] has a soft-tissue injury. Chuck Clark is sick; he should be returning to us.”

Tomlin also noted there are “other bumps and bruises” but none that should threaten player availability this week.

For clarity, Tomlin was referring to Miller and Holcomb being out and did not definitively rule them out for the Chargers game. But it appears they may not practice to begin the week and aren’t guaranteed to return for the weekend. Later in the presser, Tomlin affirmed he was not ruling out either player this week and would monitor their availability during practice.

Seumalo aggravated the pec injury he originally suffered in the Steelers’ Week 8 loss to the Green Bay Packers. Unable to practice until last Friday, Seumalo worked in full during the team’s final session and was cleared for Week 9’s game against the Indianapolis Colts. He logged 48 snaps in the win before bowing out in the second half and was quickly ruled out by the team. The fact Tomlin didn’t indicate his injury is serious is a good sign, though his status remains unclear.

Spencer Anderson replaced him at left guard. If Seumalo is unable to play Sunday night, Anderson will fill-in. If so, it leaves an open question who would assume Anderson’s role as a sixth offensive lineman. Options include veteran Andrus Peat, Ryan McCollum, and Jack Driscoll, who was signed to the practice squad last week. Driscoll would have to be signed to the 53 or elevated from the practice squad in order to dress and play against the Chargers.

Veteran CB Darius Slay suffered a dislocated finger in the win over the Colts but finished the game. As did EDGE Alex Highsmith, who suffered a lower body/ankle injury but finished the game and had his best outing of the season. He’s expected to play this week. It sounds like Clark will practice and be available this weekend.

Peppers suffered a mid-week quad injury and was inactive against the Colts. It left Pittsburgh thin at safety but Jalen Ramsey and Kyle Dugger started and played well, holding Indianapolis’ offense in check. Ramsey often matched against on rookie TE Tyler Warren on third downs, holding him to a season-low 26 yards. Miller has missed the last two games with a finger injury but has just one catch on the season.

Pittsburgh will release its first injury report tomorrow and its final one Friday.

The Steelers and Chargers kick off Sunday night at 8:20 PM/EST.
