The Los Angeles Rams went offense with their first pick of the 2025 NFL Draft after trading back from the No. 26 pick to the No. 46 pick. L.A. took Oregon tight end Terrance Ferguson, a player they reportedly liked so much they considered using the No. 26 on him.

Whether or not that’s true, Ferguson has earned some incredible comparisons from the Rams’ brass since the selection — including Travis Kelce. Former NFL right end Greg Olsen isn’t ready to completely give Ferguson that accolade, he did tell Steve Smith Sr. and James Palmer on 89 that Ferguson is a good fit for what the Rams will want to do in 2025.

“He’s kind of that bigger body, reliable, super versatile, all of the misdirection, all the play action, the under center stuff that they’re gonna do,” Olsen said. “Like, he’s a really good fit for that. And listen, if what you’re saying is true and they were gonna take him in the first round, then this is the win of a lifetime.”

“He’s talented. He comes from a premier program. And when you can put talented guys into a Sean McVay system, he has shown for a long time now, that even if they’re not the most heralded, they’re not the number one overall pick … if you’re a real football player and you’re talented and you go in there and you buy into what Sean McVay is going to ask you to do, he should have the ability to have guys have a lot of success.”

McVay says he has “big plans” for the rookie tight end in 2025, which may or may mean he’ll take over for starter Tyler Higbee sooner rather than later. It could also mean the Rams want to use more multi-tight end sets to try and take pressure off the running back or receivers Davante Adams and Puka Nacua.

Either way, Ferguson was taken for a reason and the Rams liked what they saw out of him in college to use their first pick of the draft. He was consistent in college with 134 career receptions for 1,537 yards and 16 touchdowns for the Ducks. That production alone is enough to warrant an early role in the offense.
