The 2025 CIF Southern Section high school football playoffs begin this week, except for the Division 1 bracket that begins November 14.
As is always the case, Division 1 is one of the toughest high school football playoff brackets in America. All eight teams are highly-ranked in the High School Football America 300 national rankings, powered by NFL Play Football.
St. John Bosco, ranked No. 4 in our national rankings, receives the No. 1 seed in Division 1, despite its loss Friday to Mater Dei. The Braves will open against Orange Lutheran, who they beat 48-0 on October 10.
Bosco will get the winner of the game between Sierra Canyon, the fourth seed, and Santa Margarita. In the HSFA national rankings, SM is ranked No. 9 and SC is ranked No. 11.
On the other side of the bracket, Corona Centennial (No. 10 in HSFA 300) is the No. 2 seed. The Huskies will play Servite in the quarterfinals. They’ll get the winner of Mater Dei and Mission Viejo, ranked No. 3 and No. 25 respectively in our HSFA 300.
Back on September 12, CC beat Mater Dei, the five-time HSFA national champs, 43-36.
High school football fans are hoping for a Bosco/Mater Dei Part II. Both teams are two wins away from the 2025 rematch. If both teams make it to the Section final, it will be the seventh time since 2016 that the rivals have played twice in a season.
Half of the 16 teams in Division 2 are also ranked in the HSFA 300. Murrieta Valley, ranked No. 230 nationally, is the top seed. The Nighthawks will open against Corona del Mar, the 16th seed, but ranked No. 245 in our national rankings created with our proprietary algorithm.
The CIF-SS seeds teams based on a competitive equity formal that the section has been using for five years.
