NFL free agency might be largely in the rear view mirror, but that doesn’t mean teams are not still making moves. On Tuesday, the Los Angeles Chargers and Jim Harbaugh did something, agreeing to a deal with former USC linebacker Kana’i Mauga.

Originally from Hawaii, Mauga played at USC from 2018 through 2021. As a senior, he was one of the few bright spots on a historically bad Trojans defense, recording 92 tackles, two passes defended, a sack, and an interception.

After not being selected in the 2022 NFL Draft, Mauga signed with the Denver Broncos and spent some time on their practice squad. After being released, he later wound up with the Las Vegas Raiders, where he was eventually elevated from the practice squad to the active roster. He appeared in 17 games for Las Vegas over the past two seasons, recording six tackles.

Now, he heads back to the city where he played his college ball. Staying in the AFC West, Mauga will look to get a little revenge on the team that he spent the past two seasons with—who are now led by USC legend Pete Carroll.
