Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud has been ruled out for Sunday’s Week 10 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, head coach DeMeco Ryans said Wednesday. Davis Mills will start in his place.
Stroud left Sunday’s Week 9 loss to the Denver Broncos during the second quarter after suffering a concussion on a hit from Broncos defensive back Kris Abrams-Draine. Stroud was hit hard in the shoulder while sliding to the turf, and his head slammed on to the ground. An initial flag thrown for a late hit was picked up. The 24-year-old walked off the field on his own power and did not return.

Later, after Stroud’s exit, backup Mills led the offense to first-and-goal at the 2, but couldn’t cash in following a second-down holding penalty. The Texans were just 3-for-17 on third down in Sunday’s game.
The Broncos later rallied for an 18-15 win at NRG Stadium, as Wil Lutz buried the 34-yard game-winning field goal as time expired.
This was Stroud’s second diagnosed concussion in the NFL. His first came in 2023 against the Jets and caused him to miss two games.
