The No. 1 Ohio State Buckeyes are gearing up for a road showdown this Saturday against the Purdue Boilermakers, aiming to remain unbeaten as the regular season winds down.

Despite coming off a national championship and in the midst of another title run, Ohio State continues to build for the future. On Thursday, the Buckeyes added a key piece to that puzzle when elite four-star cornerback Jay Timmons officially flipped his commitment from Florida State to Ohio State.

According to Rival300, Timmons is ranked No. 29 nationally and is the No. 2 cornerback in the country.

“I want to compete with the best,” Timmons emphasized.

Timmons was previously a verbal commit to Florida State, where his father once earned All-American honors, but his plans changed after an official visit to Columbus over the weekend. Watching Ohio State dominate Penn State in person was enough to sway him to join Matt Patricia’s defense, which has been the best unit in college football this season.

Timmons said he was drawn to the program’s track record of producing elite defensive backs and the winning culturethat head coach Ryan Day has continued to build since taking over for Urban Meyer in 2018.

Timmons is now the Buckeyes’ No. 23 recruit in the Class of 2026 and spoke extremely highly of Ohio State’s defense, saying he’s eager to join the program next season and potentially remain there for several years to come.

“Their defense is what excites me, and the energy they bring — it’s something different,” Timmons added.

When discussing what it means to play in Ohio and for the Buckeyes, he highlighted the passion of the fan base.

“People don’t stop saying O-H-I-O,” Timmons said. “The people here are super loyal.”
