The Indianapolis Colts’ defense been one of the strongest units in the NFL through nine weeks, ranking seventh in points allowed per game (20.1) and fourth in rushing yards allowed (87.0). A significant reason for that has been defensive tackle DeForest Buckner, who’s in the midst of one of the best seasons of his 10-year NFL career.
The defense and an excellent rushing attack have been the catalysts behind the Colts’ surprising 7-2 start to the season. But when Indianapolis takes on the Atlanta Falcons in Week 10, they’ll be without former Oregon Ducks standout Buckner, who was ruled out Thursday with a neck injury. The game is set to take place in Berlin as part of the NFL’s international series in 2025.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter was the first to report the news of Buckner’s absence on the trip.
The former Duck (2012-2015) has amassed 42 total tackles, 26 of which solo, four sacks and 6.5 run stuffs in nine games this season.
Buckner’s injury comes at a good time considering the Colts’ schedule, as they’ll enjoy a bye week after the team returns from Berlin before heading on the road to take on the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 12.
