Aftab Pureval gives a speech after being elected to second term as Cincinnati mayor
The Bengals and the city of Cincinnati are now on the same trajectory.
Team President Mike Brown and Director of Player Personnel Duke Tobin, working together, produce eerily similar results as the team of Mayor Aftab Pureval and City Manager Sheryl Long.
Under Brown, the Bengals have been unable to master the fundamentals of the game, such as blocking and tackling. Under Pureval, the city has failed to provide basic services, such as snow removal and street repairs.
Under Brown, the Bengals have no defense. Under Pureval, fighting crime has been replaced with speed humps and ankle monitors.
The Bengals fire Defensive Coordinator Lou Anarumo, who obviously was not the problem. Long puts Police Chief Teresa Theetge on paid administrative leave, then spends taxpayer money to determine whether there is any reason to fire her.
Bengals fans keep attending and watching one dreadful episode after another, and Cincinnati residents keep putting the same people back in office − both groups hoping something will change. Unfortunately, hope is not a plan.
