MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) – Northern Michigan University announced Friday that head football coach Shane Richardson has resigned, effective immediately.
“We are committed to achieving standards consistent with our focus on the success of each of our student athletes,” said NMU Athletic Director Rick Comley. “The search for a new head coach will begin immediately.”
Richardson’s resignation comes after he was placed on administrative leave, along with offensive line coach Joe Gatz, on Monday evening.
The NMU Athletics press release says that the administrative leave for Gatz will be lifted on Monday and he will be part of the coaching staff for Northern’s final game of the season against Wayne State University in Marquette next Saturday.
Offensive Coordinator Billy Lindquist will serve as the interim head coach for the rest of the season.
