The NFL media market isn’t going to let the buzz simmer down after the NFL trade deadline passes, so here comes some goofy analysis around Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow.
Leaning into just how horrifically things have gone for the 3-6 Bengals this year, Adam Schefter appeared on ESPN’s “Get Up” and started wondering aloud if a team like the New York Jets might swoop in and offer Cincinnati multiple first-round picks for Burrow.
“How do you think Joe Burrow feels about the Bengals defense and the offensive line that’s protecting him?” Schefter said. “That’s where it gets interesting, because if that’s what he wants, and we have no idea what he wants, but if that’s what he wants, it’s over.”

The Bengals won’t accept any offer on Burrow, of course, just as they didn’t back before the draft when needy teams like Miami had three first-round picks. The Jets’ recent fire sale at the trade deadline to acquire those types of assets won’t move the Bengals, either.
Beyond that, speculating about whether Burrow will ask out is pointless. He’s never vibed as that type of guy, at least. And his contract does include a no-trade clause, should the Bengals ever attempt to do the unthinkable.
Make no mistake, the ghost of Carson Palmer has haunted those in the Cincinnati area for, well, forever. It’s on their minds with every hit he takes and every silly little bit of mismanagement that got the Bengals to this point.
But one of the top talking heads on the planet talking about a Burrow trade to start November is odd, to say the very least.
There’s pressure in the Bengals organization to get things right, and it could very well even mean someone like Duke Tobin is on the hot seat right with Zac Taylor. But any Burrow conversation is moot.
