The Seattle Seahawks are suddenly down a big contributor on their defensive line.
Defensive tackle Jarran Reed was placed on injured reserve Saturday with wrist and thumb injuries, a day before the 6-2 Seahawks host the 3-5 Arizona Cardinals at Lumen Field.

Seattle also placed wide receiver Dareke Young on IR with a quadriceps injury. At the same time, defensive tackle Quinton Bohanna and receiver Cody White have been signed off of the practice squad to the 53-man roster, while wide receiver Ricky White III and linebacker Patrick O’Connell were elevated from the practice squad for the game against the Cardinals.
The loss of Reed comes as a surprise. While he was on the Seahawks’ injury report for the past two weeks, he was a full participant in practice this week. It was expected he would play Sunday when Seattle released its injury designations for the Cardinals game on Friday, but he was suddenly downgraded to being ruled out Saturday morning.
The 32-year-old Reed is in his 10th NFL season and third since returning to the Seahawks. He was a second-round NFL Draft pick out of Alabama in 2016 by Seattle and has spent all but two of his pro seasons with the Hawks. This year, he has appeared in all eight of Seattle’s games including two starts, and has made 17 tackles, six QB hits and 1.5 sacks.
Reed plays an important role for a Seattle defense that is second in the league with 85.9 rushing yards allowed per game and tied for fifth in the league in scoring at 18.8 points allowed per game.
Young, a seventh-round pick in 2023 by the Seahawks out of Lenoir-Rhyne, has 48 yards on two receptions in six games this season.
Reed and Young will have to miss a minimum of four games while on IR before they can return to the Seahawks’ roster.
On Friday, Seattle initially ruled out four players for Sunday’s game, including Young and fellow wide receiver Jake Bobo. Additionally, rookie receiver Tory Horton was ruled doubtful and veteran receiver Cooper Kupp was deemed questionable, severely impacting Seattle’s depth in the passing game. The Seahawks did make the addition of receiver Rashid Shaheed from the New Orleans Saints just before Tuesday’s NFL trade deadline, however.
The Seahawks and Cardinals will kick off at 1:05 p.m. Sunday, with radio coverage on Seattle Sports beginning at 10 a.m. with the pregame show.
