Chicago Bears linebacker D’Marco Jackson was fined $6,111 for the hip-drop tackle that injured Cincinnati Bengals running back and kick returner Samaje Perine in Week 9, the NFL announced Nov. 8.
Perine suffered the right ankle injury during the second quarter of the Bengals’ 47-42 loss.
Perine stayed down at the end of a kick return, but jogged off the field under his own power. His leg appeared to get caught underneath him on the tackle.
“That’s a bad man right there,” CBS analyst Adam Archuleta said during the broadcast. “He is a tough, tough guy.”
Trainers looked at Perine’s ankle on the sideline after he jogged off. The Bengals ruled Perine out early in the second half, and head coach Zac Taylor said after the game that Perine is “week-to-week.”
“That’s the type of tackle that you hope is getting legislated out of the game,” Bengals offensive coordinator Dan Pitcher said.
The Bengals signed Perine in March. Perine played the 2024 season for the Kansas City Chiefs.
Perine played for the Bengals for parts of four seasons from 2019 to 2022. Perine played in 54 games over four seasons with Cincinnati.
