When Amy Adams Strunk took over as chairman of the Tennessee Titans, she knew she had big shoes to fill. Her father, Bud Adams, had successfully run the team since its inception in 1960. Of the organization’s 24 postseason appearances, just four have happened since Strunk took over.

One of the biggest issues that fans have with the Titans’ owner is her lack of understanding of football. Strunk is heavily involved with other businesses started by her father, and while there’s no doubt she’s a good businesswoman, football is a different kind of business. One that requires thick skin and the ability to look past previous encounters with people.

Apparently, Strunk’s skin isn’t quite thick enough for the NFL. Ahead of the trade deadline, there were rumors about her “unwillingness” to work with the New England Patriots. Mike Giardi of the Boston Sports Journal reports that decision stemmed from the firing of Mike Vrabel.

I was also told there has been some conversation league-wide that Tennessee might be unwilling to make deals with New England because the owner, Amy Adams Strunk, continues to think too much about how things ended with Vrabel and is not inclined to help his new team. We’ll find out soon enough with the likes of edge Arden Key, RB Tony Pollard, and even WR Calvin Ridley available.

We obviously know now that none of those players were traded on Tuesday, likely because of the injuries they’ve sustained while in Tennessee. Whether that was the intended move anyway, or whether Strunk decided to veto an offer before anyone else really got a look at it, we won’t likely ever know.

What we do know, though, is that even if this is a rumor, the damage has been done.
