URBANA, Ill.  — Murray State’s Trey Wall was not alone in having a rough time in Wednesday’s third and final round of the NCAA Men’s Golf Championship Urbana Regional in central Illinois.

Wall was one of 42 players — half of the field — to record scores of over-par Wednesday at an Atkins Golf Course that seemed to take pleasure in raising scores. The Racer redshirt freshman ended with a 13-over 84 to finish at 22-over for the event and in 71st place. It also was a course that did not seem to appreciate the efforts of players who managed any good moments, such as Wall had with a very hard-earned 3-over 74 on Tuesday that was a significant improvement over Monday’s opening 7-over 78.

Armed with withering length that includes a par-4 hole measuring a massive 530 yards, the course took its toll on Wall in their final encounter. This especially showed on the back nine, where Wall had played a respectable 1-over on Tuesday. He was 10-over on Wednesday.

Still, this amounts to a learning experience for the former Marshall County star who has not had many rough patches in the past year with wins in the Kentucky State Amateur and the Missouri Valley Conference Championship in Iowa.
