Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs couldn’t keep their winning streak alive in Week 9 of the 2025 NFL season, falling to Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills 28-21. Now, in Week 10, Mahomes and the Chiefs are enjoying a bye before they head to Denver in Week 11 for an AFC West showdown against the Broncos.
Mahomes has continued his dominant career through nine games in 2025, despite the Chiefs’ 5-4 record. The three-time Super Bowl champion has completed 204-of-316 passes for 2,349 yards, 17 touchdowns and five interceptions, adding another 285 yards and four scores on the ground. But before he was Kansas City’s No. 10 overall pick in 2017, Mahomes was a star for the Texas Tech Red Raiders.

On Saturday, Mahomes returned to Lubbock, Texas, as No. 8 Texas Tech hosted No. 7 BYU. He also served as the guest picker for ESPN’s “College GameDay,” which made its way to the Red Raiders’ campus. During the game at Jones AT&T Stadium, Mahomes also ran into fellow Texas Tech alum and country music singer Josh Abbott.
In September, the Josh Abbott Band co-hosted the Deep in the Heart Benefit Concert at The Moody Theater in Austin, Texas. Proceeds from the event supported the Heaven’s 27 Foundation, which raises funds in the wake of the tragic North Texas floods in July, when 27 children lost their lives at Camp Mystic in Kerr County.

With numerous celebrity performers and a packed crowd, the benefit concert was able to raise $1.2 million. And on Sunday, the Josh Abbott Band announced that $130,000 of that came from the help of Mahomes, who shared the news on his Instagram Story.
“This dude helped us raise $130,000 at our benefit concert for @heavens27foundation,” Josh Abbott Band wrote. “Wreck ’em.”
Following the bye, Mahomes and the Chiefs will be back in action in Week 11, facing the Broncos on Sunday, at 4:25 p.m. ET.
