The Tennessee Titans are on their bye week and have a chance to regroup before embarking on the second half of the 2025 NFL season. At 1-8, the Titans have shown some small signs of development, but have a lot of unanswered questions that they must figure out. Unfortunately, with the roster in its current form, those answers may be hard to find.Â
That sentiment was echoed by former Titans lineman Taylor Lewan, who sat down with TMZ Sports to discuss rookie Cam Ward and the current state of the Titans.Â
“There’s so many holes around this Titans team. And I’m not even trying to be rude, there’s just big, gaping holes where you’re not a competitive team this year.” Lewan said, “In order to figure out what you really have in Cam Ward, you have to put pieces around him that are going to show you if Cam Ward is going to be the guy.”
The former NFL lineman noted that Ward has flashed under pressure, which is a great sign. Through nine weeks, Ward has been sacked a league-high 38 times. The offensive line has been an issue for two seasons and sits at the heart of the struggles the offense faces every week.Â
Lewan laid the blame on the organization —specifically, ownership— for not building a strong foundation for the young signal caller and pointed to the need to find the right coach to help Ward and the Titans turn the corner. His choice for the position is his former offensive coordinator and former Atlanta Falcons head coach Arthur Smith.Â
Smith is a popular choice with many outside the organization and brings both familiarity with the organization and its fan base, as well as experience as a head coach. Currently the offensive coordinator for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Smith should be a name to watch once the coaching search moves into high gear.Â
