The Carolina Panthers and quarterback Bryce Young had an opportunity to take another step in their development on Sunday. But even against the 1-8 New Orleans Saints (or the now-2-8 New Orleans Saints), the growing pains remained.

Young, in Carolina’s disappointing 17-7 loss to New Orleans, turned in one of his worst performances of the season. He completed 17 of his 25 throws for 124 yards, no touchdowns and an interception.

Clearly frustrated by the results, Young took the blame for his offense’s shortcomings here in Week 10.

“I take accountability,” Young stated. “I gotta be better. We gotta execute. We gotta do better stuff. It’s on us. Give credit to that defense. It’s a good group, we respect them. But we gotta execute and it starts with me.”

Carolina’s offense failed to execute on six of their nine third-down tries this afternoon, and finished with just 175 total yards and two turnovers. New Orleans, meanwhile, amassed a hefty 388 yards behind the second career start of rookie quarterback Tyler Shough—who passed for 282 yards and a pair of scores.

Young was later asked if this defeat was particularly bothersome.

“No, nothing’s different,” he replied. “No one likes to lose. I certainly don’t. No one in that locker room wants to lose, no one’s happy in there. I’m grateful to have a lot of competitors around me. No one’s in a great mood right now.

“Sucks right now. It is what it is. We’ll own it, we’ll live it, we’ll turn the page tomorrow, we’ll learn what we have to get better at and then we’ll grow.”

The Panthers will soon hit the road for a second straight divisional matchup, as they’ll face the 3-6 Atlanta Falcons in Week 11.
