Andy Reid says Chiefs expect Josh Simmons to return, praises locker room focus

All right, so, um, The coaches are just coming back today from uh from *** few days off and um Uh, we’re getting back in the swing of things right now. Uh, players aren’t back till tomorrow, so don’t have *** lot of information for you there. Um, we’re expecting everybody back and, uh, Josh included. So if you’re going in that direction, that’s the information I have for you. Um, and then we’ll, uh, you know, we’ll, I presume they’ve, they’ve got some workouts in and, and Uh, they’re off time and we’ll come back ready, ready to go. So, with that time’s yours. We’ll go first to Pete Sweeney. Go ahead, Pete. Yeah, coach, you kind of alluded to it with Josh. Um, what’s the reintegration plan with him? you sense that he’ll be able to just get right back to the start. I think what we’ll do is just see where we’re at here and, you know, we know we’ve got *** good player in there now and Um, we know what Josh is capable of and all that. So we’ll just see where, where we’re at when, uh, You know, when they get back. We’ll go next to Jessie Newell. Jessie. Hey, Kelsey, I have *** follow up too. Uh, hey, Andy, I want *** couple just quick injury updates on guys. Um, Isaiah, do you expect him back in practice this week and then Jawan Taylor left the game against the Bills. What do you anticipate with him? Yeah, well, I’ll have to see up with Jake and, um, Taylor was, uh, feeling pretty good when he, by the time he got back here and, and had left. So, um, I think we’ll probably be OK there. OK. And *** quick follow up from the Buffalo game, um, when Pacheco was out, you guys elevated Clyde, uh, and left Elijah Mitchell on the enacted. Can you just go over the decision there to bring Clyde up for that game? Yeah, so we really like Elijah, obviously, he wouldn’t be here, but I think that makes *** big statement there. But Clyde is, uh, you know, he knows all the protections, he knows all that. Not only does he know it, he’s done it, and so we’ve seen him do it. So there’s *** comfort, there was *** comfort there. Not that Elijah doesn’t, he, he’s He’s very sharp kid, so, but we just. You know, we’ve seen. You know, our guy do it. So that’s, that’s, that was the only reason why, but. We’ll go next to Matt Derek. Go ahead, Matt. Uh, coach, with Josh, how do you feel like the, the team has handled it? The coaches and the players alike as far as Josh’s departure and now his return? Sure, Matt, um, uh, players always are concerned about other players, uh, well-being, that’s first of all. So, uh, but on the other hand, they also move forward, and they don’t necessarily look back. So they, they, they giddy up and go on what’s there today and let’s, let’s go, and they go 100 miles an hour with that. Uh, but I would, uh, so I think it’s *** blend, you know, of things, they don’t, they’re not dwelling on that, but they want to make sure he’s OK as ***, as *** human being. And *** kind of *** coupled with that *** little bit is, you know, what’s the, what was the kind of the process for Josh coming back last week? Was there anything, you know, maybe differently that you, you did or the team did, players and coaches to kind of get him back into the building and welcome him back? Uh, not necessarily, no. Yeah. We’ll go next to Sam McDowell, Sam. Hey Andy, um, just, just along those lines, like, did, uh, did he get some workouts in last week? Like, are you able to tell already what kind of football shape he’s in already? Yeah, see, I’m not gonna, no, I’m, I’m not gonna get into all that. Um, I’m not telling you yes or no that he did, but he, uh, he, I know he’s been working on for sure. I just wondered, you know, Jalen’s played *** few games now and um just wondered if you could just assess what he’s done at left tackle for you. Yeah, Sam. Jalen’s, uh, he’s done *** nice job, uh, for us. Um, I, I think just asking him to jump in, uh, after the season’s been going for *** couple of months here is, uh, that’s *** tough ask, uh, especially against the D lines we’re playing, but he, he’s done, uh, done *** respectable job. We’ll go to Sarin Petro next, Sarin. I, I got *** *** couple of follow-ups as well, uh, coach, let’s just start first of all with like the playoff pictures, you know, you had *** number of things that maybe could have helped you guys out this past weekend. Looked like it was maybe it helped you out, didn’t go that way. So, you know, is there *** sense of urgency about how far you are down the standings right now? do you sense that amongst, uh, you know, the the entire organization, the players and everybody, how urgent the situation is playoff wise? Uh, yeah, and I mean, well, you know, in this, in this league, I mean, every game’s important and so you’ve got to stay focused on that. And, um, it doesn’t matter what you project or what’s happened before you learn from your past and take care of what’s going on today. Um, we’ll get the players back tomorrow and then we’re all in. Uh, on Denver. So that’s, that’s kind of where we’re at. Uh, is there an urgency? There, there should be an urgency every week. I, I, that’s how this league is. There’s too much parity in this league, not to, not to have urgency every week. You, you guys have played *** lot of games, right? Have had *** lot of success. I mean, you know, you, this is new for you, right? Being *** three-time champion, right? So like, is that, as you noticed that? You know, some of the guys that have been around and had *** lot of success that sometimes maybe they need *** little bit more, you know, urging, you know, or, or, you know, like the, the tanks just on empty because of all that you guys have accomplished. Yeah, I don’t, uh, that’s not how I feel. Um, I, I feel like the guys have got good energy and they’re, we just need to clean *** *** couple things up and we’ll, we’ll be. We’ll be OK there. OK. I know you’ve said *** number of times there’s only one football, uh, right? So like, you know, not everybody can have ***, *** giant day, but is it safe to say you’d like to get Xavier Worthy *** little bit more involved and that, that, that would be something that could help you guys out as far as offensively if he, he could be more part of the equation? Well, we try to get them all involved the best, the best we can. Some, some games, you’re just gonna have that where, you know, they’re, they’re taking somebody away and that’s, that’s how it goes, you know, that’s happened, how the coverage goes, that’s how the play call goes, so on. Um, you know, so, but we’re not down on *** Xavier Worthy, we, we, uh, And we know he’s, he’s *** good player and we like to get the ball in the good players’ hands, you know, the best, best way we can, um. So it just hasn’t rolled that way. It looks like Sein has one more for you and then we’ll go last to Jessie. Sorry, uh, last one would just be Chris Jones. I mean, uh, does, does he need to, you know, find another level for you guys to be successful in the second half? Uh, I think, you know, we all need to do better. Um, I, I would say that, uh, Chris is always striving to do better every day. I mean, that’s what’s made him such *** good player. Um, again, he’s, he’s the guy that They’re gonna focus on and if you’re getting *** double team, that’s who who’s getting doubled and. So that’s, uh, he’s just, he, he’ll get his as we, as we go forward. It’s just important that he stays consistent and keeps working hard. Go ahead, Jessie. Yeah, Andy, um, obviously the bye week is *** big week for self scout for you guys. I just wonder what the biggest takeaways were when you were rewatching yourself on tape. Yeah, I can’t give you all that, Jesse, but, uh, I, I would tell you that we did go back and look, um, Uh, some of the things we can do better, or some of the things that we’ve done well. Um, you know, we had *** lot of good things coming up to this past week, and then there were some things there that we can definitely learn from this, uh, the last game against the Bills. So, um, but, uh, again, that’s You know, that’s why we, we spend the time working on that stuff, but I’m not gonna put it out there for sure. Good question though. Thank you, coach. That’s all we have for you.
