The role of Jaguars’ free agent signing was reduced in the team’s Week 10 game against Houston.
There was a noticeable shift in playing time for the Jacksonville Jaguars’ in Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans.
Despite Brian Thomas Jr. and Travis Hunter both being out, Dyami Brown’s role was relatively small.
Brown would play only 23 offensive snaps in this game. The week prior against the Las Vegas Raiders, he played 48.
“It was more—obviously we got Jakobi coming in,” Liam Coen said on Monday, via Jaguars on SI. “Dyami was ready, he was spelling guys throughout the whole day and being rotational at both the Z and the X position and he just needs to continue to go to work during the week of practice, keep playing fast, and when his opportunities come his way, make those plays.”
Of course, factoring into this decision was the Jaguars landing Jakobi Meyers at the trade deadline. In his Jaguars’ debut, Meyers led the team in receiving with 41 yards and showcased his reliable pass-catching abilities, catching all three targets, including a contested grab for a first down.
But beyond having Meyers now in the mix, in recent weeks we’ve also seen Parker Washington take on a much larger role on offense — seemingly leaping Brown on the depth chart.
Even Tim Patrick, who hadn’t played more than 22 snaps in a game this season, out-snapped Brown as he was on the field for 44 snaps in Sunday’s game.
“Had good dialogue with Dyami last week and he practiced hard and played faster,” Coen said. “So, we’ll have to look at obviously the rotation this week, but I’ve trusted him to continue to make plays.”
Austin Trammell also played nine snaps against Houston, and Tim Jones played five.
Once Thomas Jr. returns, playing time for Brown may become harder to come by, with Meyers’ role presumably expanding and Washington continuing to make plays.
