As Mike Vrabel’s team gears up for a quick turnaround, it appears as though the Patriots are getting healthier.
With a Thursday night matchup against the New York Jets on deck, the Patriots held a walkthrough on Monday instead of a full practice but still released an injury report.
Although there is a laundry list of players dealing with injuries, the Patriots’ practice report revealed some good news.
The only player who didn’t participate in Monday’s walkthrough was tight end Austin Hooper, who suffered a concussion in Sunday’s win over Tampa Bay.
The Patriots listed 14 players as limited, and that included wide receiver Kayshon Boutte (hamstring), running back Rhamondre Stevenson (toe), and running back Terrell Jennings (knee). All three being listed as limited is a positive development.
This marks the first time Stevenson has practiced in two weeks since suffering the toe injury. The veteran running back has missed the team’s last two games against Atlanta and Tampa Bay.
Stevenson’s presence is needed as the position is dealing with several injuries. The latest was Jennings, who left Sunday’s win with a knee injury. It was a positive development that he was available on Monday.
Rookie running back TreVeyon Henderson is also limited and dealing with a knee injury. He’s coming off the best game of his career.
It’s also a positive sign that Boutte is back at practice. The receiver left the team’s win over Atlanta due to a hamstring injury and didn’t practice last week. Boutte is second on the Patriots in receiving yards and first in receiving touchdowns.
Due to the short week, the Patriots will hold one practice on Tuesday before their very quick turnaround against the Jets.
Although limited practice, participation in a walkthrough doesn’t mean that the Patriots will get Stevenson or Boutte back, it is a positive sign to see both veterans back on the practice field.
“Today’s walkthrough, we’ll try to do our best with the injury report,” Vrabel said on Monday when asked about Jennings. “We’ll see what he’s able to do. I would say the same with all those guys that weren’t available for the game yesterday, I think that they’re working extremely hard and I think that they – we’ll see what they can do with the walkthrough. They’ll probably do a little bit more and then we’ll try to evaluate so that we can make some decisions for the game.”
