The Athletic has live coverage of Eagles vs. Packers on “Monday Night Football.”
With YouTube TV and ESPN/Disney unable to reach a deal over carriage fees, “Monday Night Football” was not shown on the Google-owned streaming service for a second straight week.
To provide greater access for YouTube TV subscribers affected by the lapse in coverage, ESPN aired the “Monday Night Football” game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Green Bay Packers on broadcast television through ABC, as well as on cable via ESPN. Last week’s “Monday Night” game was also shown concurrently on ABC and ESPN, which are both owned by Disney.
YouTube TV subscribers who don’t already pay for separate cable TV packages had the additional option of using a digital antenna to pick up the ABC broadcast of Eagles-Packers.
Since Oct. 30, when the previous agreement between Disney and Google expired, YouTube TV subscribers have been unable to access Walt Disney Company channels — including ABC and ESPN, plus the conference-specific ACC and SEC networks. The dispute over a new deal focuses primarily on the price YouTube TV will pay Disney to air its programming.
YouTube TV is the fourth-largest television distributor in the country with roughly 10 million U.S. subscribers, many of whom have been unable to watch college and NFL football on the ESPN family of networks over the past two weekends.
In addition to being broadcast on ABC, ESPN and ESPN Deportes the Eagles-Packers game was also available on ESPN’s new direct-to-consumer offering, ESPN Unlimited.
Philadelphia (7-2) won its third straight to keep pace with the Seattle Seahawks (7-2) and Los Angeles Rams (7-2) atop the NFC standings.
