The Seattle Seahawks rounded off their fourth consecutive victory on Sunday, blowing out the Arizona Cardinals 44-22 in Week 10. The Seahawks are leading the NFC West at 7-2. Starting quarterback Sam Darnold has been the main catalyst of Seattle’s outstanding season. It’s time for Darnold to start earning shouts in the MVP conversation.
Critics were split on the Seahawks’ decision to sign Darnold to a three-year contract worth $100.5 million in free agency. He’s responded by helping make the Seahawks instant contenders. Darnold has been among the best quarterbacks in the NFL this season.
Darnold currently ranks seventh among quarterbacks in passing yards (2,262), a number that gets more impressive when you realize he’s 25th in passing attempts (228). Darnold’s 9.9 yards per attempt ranks first, and he’s tied for seventh in touchdowns (17). His 116.5 quarterback rating is third, and his adjusted QBR (77.6) tops all quarterbacks.

Darnold, Matthew Stafford, and Drake Maye have been the three best quarterbacks in the NFL this campaign. Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor also deserves MVP consideration, though a non-QB hasn’t won the award since 2012. If Darnold maintains this level of play throughout the duration of the season, he could be the first Seahawk to win MVP since Shaun Alexander in 2005.
